Introduction to Epic Studies

This course offers an introduction to the major Indian epics, particularly the Rāmāyaṇa and the Mahābhārata and their enduring cultural, ethical and philosophical significance. Participants will explore key themes such as dharma, leadership, devotion, duty, morality and social values reflected in the epics. The programme also examines the influence of these texts on literature, performing arts, religion and contemporary society. Through selected readings and discussions, learners will gain insight into the relevance of epic traditions in modern life. The course is suitable for students, educators and the general public interested in Indian civilization and culture.
